Sony MZ-NH1 Hi-MD Walkman

With Sony introducing their 2005 models soon, Amazon UK has been selling off the 2004 models at vastly reduced prices, so it was too good an opportunity to move from my old MD recorder to a nice shiny MZ-NH1 :-).

I haven’t had much of an opportunity to do much with it yet other than quickly review the box contents. It is smaller than I expected – the photos of it on a charging platform for some reason make it look quite big. I knew from other postings that the charging platform plugs into the base of the Walkman, into the same socket that the USB cable uses, so it isn’t possible to have the Walkman on the charger and connected to the computer at the same time.

What was a surprise, though, is that the USB cable doesn’t charge the unit! All it does do is provide enough power from the computer to run the device so you aren’t using the battery in the process. This is a big shame, IMO, as it means that I’ve got the pack the mains adapter and charging stand now when I travel, rather than just the USB cable.
